Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving to be enjoyed with family and friends! We are thankful for so many things that God has given to us! One thing that we don't
always think of to add to our thankful list is our health. Something we take for granted until we maybe aren't feeling as well as we would like to be. We want to share a few tips that we like to use to stay on track with supporting the gut and powering the brain this holiday season.
With Thanksgiving upon us now it can feel like one big, long temptation fest, what with all kinds of delicious food
staring us in the face. It’s enough to drive you to extremes, choosing either to go all-out total deprivation or all-out indulgence. The trick to stay clear of both these extremes moderation is to eat mindfully by following these simple tips.
Make a plan. Decide ahead of time what kind of treats you’ll allow yourself, so you don’t get swept up in the temptation of the moment. Perhaps it’s 1 small cookie a day or 1 big dessert a week.
Use a plate. Serve yourself a portion of snack food onto a plate rather than scooping repeatedly out of a bowl or bag. You’re more likely to eat less if you visually cue your mind how much you get.
Eat and drink regularly. Don’t skip meals before a holiday feast to save up calories or carbs. Snack on some fresh fruits and vegetables to keep your hunger at bay. Keep your water bottle filled and drink water to help keep yourself from eating to much. If you’re famished before a meal, you’re more likely to overeat.
Go slow. Eating slowly allows you to savor your food and gives time for your brain to signal that you are full. It is much better for your digestion and gut health to eat slowly. If you really enjoy what you eat, you may not feel the urge to eat as much and you give yourself time to fill up rather than overeating.
Be gentle on yourself. If you have seconds of your favorite dish, don’t beat yourself up. It’s okay to cut yourself a little slack and pick a favorite item to have seconds on. Just make sure to keep your proportions in mind to keep you from eating to much.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
